Hi everyone and welcome back to the blog! Today’s post is about how you can shower more sustainably! Big soap companies will try to make their products seem more environmentally-friendly by saying that their bottles are recyclable, but what if I told you that they are way behind? Recycling is good, but reducing is better. Smaller companies have come out with soap bars that are in plastic-free packaging. I recently purchased zero-waste shampoo and conditioner bars. I stopped buying hair soap that comes in plastic bottles because I wanted to reduce my usage of plastic and I’m so happy with the results. I hope you enjoy today’s post. Happy reading!

Shampoo Bars
I bought a shampoo bar a few weeks ago and I’m obsessed with it! All I have to do is rub it in my hands for a few seconds and I have plenty of soap for all of my hair. Since my hair is long I usually need a lot of soap, which is the reason I went through hair soap bottles so fast. I’ve been using this bar for a few weeks now and I already see it lasting longer than shampoo that comes in a plastic bottle. Liquid soap’s first ingredient is water and when soap is in a bar form it’s just soap, which makes it last longer. I got mine from The Earthling Co. I found shampoo bars by Ethnique on Amazon that are sulfate-free, plant-based, and come in plastic-free packaging that I would love for you to try out! Also, Ethnique also has purple shampoo bars for the blondies out there. My hair is so healthy and I hope you make the switch to shampoo bars!

Conditioner Bars
I wanted to give my review of conditioner bars it’s own paragraph because I’m so impressed with it!! Like I said earlier, I have a lot of hair and I’ve always used a little too much conditioner for it. All I have to do to get the perfect amount of conditioner is rub the bar directly on my hair. I glide the bar from my roots all the way down to the end of my hair. Just like the shampoo bar, I already see this conditioner bar lasting longer than if it was in a plastic bottle. I also got this bar from The Earthling Co. and I’ve been loving the results! I won’t be going back to plastic bottles!

Body Soap Bars
Something I wanted to add was using body soap bars! This has got to be the easiest switch of all time. They sell soap bars in stores, but here’s the issue…. some of soap bars come wrapped in plastic. That is a big no no, so let’s keep an eye out for paper packaging! Hand soap bars are also a good way to use less plastic. I have some plastic-free body and hand soap options on my Amazon Shopping List! Linked here.
Bamboo Soap Dish
One last thing! When you make the switch to shampoo, conditioner, or body/ hand soap bars, I highly recommend getting a soap dish. If you don’t already have one I put a bamboo soap dish on my Amazon Shopping List! Bamboo is the #1 renewable resource, so that’s why I recommend that. Using a soap dish with holes in it helps the bars dry and last longer.

I hope you enjoyed today’s post and that you are interested in switching up your shower routine! I really love the results from using hair soap bars and this is yet another thing that I will never go back to plastic for. I also just wanted to say thank you to the people who read my posts every Friday. I love hearing about how you guys want to make the changes that I talk about! It means a lot to me and I appreciate all the support. I hope you have a great rest of your day and that you give soap bars a chance! 🙂 ❤
Love, Maija.
